History of the

The Bomber

In August of 2013, the Bomber was donated by Ken Gehrke, who had built it for his Father. He offered to give it to the Walker American Legion. An enthused group of members mobilized to remove it from the structure that it was currently flying over.

After carefully removing and transporting it to Walker Minnesota, it was put into overhaul with Doug Landt in charge of refurbishing the plane. The overhaul took two months and she was ready to fly again! The plane was test flown to the Walker American Legion with a police escort on a 3 Wheel Cushman with Doug dressed appropriately; wearing a bomber hat and goggles.

Now it was time for it to be installed onto the rotating pole made by Tony Klave. After gingerly raising the plane to its' perch, it was bolted in place and the Honor Guard had a very unofficial ceremony, with a canon salute.
